We never denied the Labour Party a venue for a rally — Delta Govt

According to the Delta State Government, contrary to online reports, the Labour Party (LP) was never denied a venue for their Presidential Campaign rally in the state.

The State Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, said in a statement on Sunday that the party never applied for a venue and was denied.

He claimed that a representative of the party only called him on Sunday morning and demanded that he use the Asaba Arcade.

Within three minutes, the state government reached out to the Oshimili South Local Government Council and obtained a waiver of all formalities, allowing the Labour Party to hold its presidential rally at the Arcade Asaba.

Aniagwu further said to demonstrate the state’s democratic credentials and tolerance for opposition, it graciously waived the amount payable for the venue.

He urged the party to carry on its rally peacefully in line with laid down rules and regulations.
