AAC presidential candidate, Sowore, set to award scholarships to indigent students

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, will award scholarships and bursaries to various individuals on January 1, 2023.

The Sowore Scholarship Foundation was founded in memory of the human rights activist’s father, who died in 2005.

The 2023 edition will be held at Methodist Primary School, Kiribo, in Ondo State’s Ese Odo Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued by Sowore on Tuesday, the program has also assisted a number of non-students in their endeavors since its inception.

He said, “In 2005 my father, David Omoremikun Sowore, passed to the great beyond; during his years on earth, he was a great teacher who believed in free and qualitative education. He taught practically all his kids at home and in the classroom. When he died, I decided to establish a scholarship in his memory and since then supported a number of individuals with a scholarship fund.

“It has grown even though I always kept it private. The funds have also helped to assist a number of non-students to support their endeavours.

“I’ve managed to keep the scholarship going even though I faced extreme restrictions since 2019 as I was restricted to Nigeria with work; the Nigerian regime continues to hold bogus treason charges against me, including a court order enabling them to hold on to my international passport. I’ll not allow this to stop the important service.

“I am specifically inviting you to join us on January 1st 2023 at my hometown Kiribo in Ondo State to share the great day with us. Thanks in advance.”
