Misplaced Priority: Governor Ishaku splashes millions of naira on cars for commissioners despite owing civil servants, pensioners

Despite owing civil servants and pensioners their entitlements for several months, Taraba State Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku has presented about 25 commissioners with brand new vehicles worth millions of naira.

The vehicles were presented to the commissioners at Government House on Thursday.

Concerns have been raised about the governor’s priorities because the state owes civil servants and pensioners three to five months’ unpaid salaries or pensions.

Many workers have lamented their inability to provide for their families as the holiday season approaches.

A civil servant in the state, who spoke to SaharaReporters on condition of anonymity, described Ishaku’s action as a “misplacement of priority.”

He said they have not been paid salaries for November and December 2022.

He said local government staff members are owed five months of unpaid salaries.

It was learnt that local government pensioners are owed pensions of over five months.
