Argentina’s Central Bank Plans to Put Lionel Messi’s Picture on Currency

The Central Bank of the Republic of Argentina, El Financiero, is reportedly planning to put Lionel Messi’s image on the 1,000 peso bill.

It was gathered that the bank had been working on the idea before Argentina’s victory over France in the 2022 World Cup final game.

The Daily Mail reported that the reason for choosing the 1,000 bill is that it begins with a “10,” which is Messi’s shirt number for Argentina.

It added that “while Messi’s grinning face is on one side of the note, the group’s nickname, “La Scaloneta,” is the wording proposed for the back.”
