Taraba: Kunini resigns as Speaker, Assembly appoints new Speaker

The Taraba State House of Assembly’s Speaker, Joseph Albasu Kunini, announced his resignation on Wednesday.

A representative of the Zing constituency, John Kizito Bonzina, was swiftly chosen by the House to serve as the new Speaker.

2019 saw the election of Kunini, who ran on the PDP platform.

Everyone was surprised when he read his letter of resignation on the House floor because there had been no altercation between House members.

“My resignation is on personal grounds. I wish to thank honourable members for their support and cooperation while I served as the speaker of this honourable House,” Kunini said.

Bonzina, while speaking after his emergence as the new speaker, denied the allegation that a palace coup was staged by the members to remove the speaker from office.

While soliciting the support of his colleagues, he promised to work around the clock to build on the achievements of the former speaker.
