UPDATED: Okupe Jailed for Money Laundering

The Director-General of the Peter Obi Campaign Organisation, Dr. Doyin Okupe, has been sentenced to two years imprisonment after being found guilty of money laundering charges.

Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has found Dr. Doyin Okupe guilty of receiving more than N200 million in cash from former National Security Adviser (NSA) Col. Sambo Dasuki.

In her ruling on Monday, Justice Ojuwku stated that Okupe, the first defendant in the EFCC’s lawsuit, had broken the Money Laundering Act with his actions. He was also found guilty on counts 34 to 59 of the charges.

The court sentenced Okupe to two years imprisonment on count 34 with an option of a fine of N500,000 and also sentenced him to two years imprisonment on counts 35 to 59 with an option fine of N500,000.
