Elon Musk yields to pressure, restores suspended accounts of journalists

Following a debate over posting open data regarding the billionaire’s jet, Elon Musk has restored the Twitter accounts of many journalists who had their accounts suspended.

The unusual bans sparked a surge of protest from government officials, advocacy groups, and journalistic organizations, with some claiming it was endangering press freedom.

Musk claimed that journalists had put his family in danger by “doxxing,” or releasing nonpublic information, about his location, on Thursday, as justification for suspending the accounts.

Then, he posted a poll on his Twitter page, asking followers how long the suspended accounts should be kept inactive. Later results revealed that the majority of respondents wanted the accounts restored right away.

“The people have spoken. Accounts who doxxed my location will have their suspensions lifted now,” Musk said in a tweet on Saturday.
