Supporters of Wike, Atiku Clash Over Fresh Dispute

A confrontation between Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders supporting Atiku Abubakar and supporters of Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike has created a new dispute.

Wike, the leader of the group of five governors (G-5) in the PDP, under the aegis of the Integrity Group, has been at odds with several state-level party leaders.

The leaders, who disagree with Wike, have sworn allegiance to Atiku.

The anti-Wike leaders were said to have met in Port Harcourt under the PDP Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) and launched verbal attacks against Wike, declaring that they were more loyal to the party than the governor.

The Director-General of the Council in the State, Dr. Abiye Sekibo, complained that most of them were denied the governorship ticket of the party but that they neither abandoned the party nor made moves to scatter the PDP.

On his part, Senator Lee Maeba, who is the chairman of the PDP PCC in the state, said those backing Atiku had been in the party for many years.

Maeba said Wike had refused to condemn the attack on his residence in Port Harcourt recently, insisting that thuggery and violence would not do anyone any good.
