Gunmen attack Imo INEC headquarters

In the early hours of Monday, gunmen heavily shelled the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters along the Owerri-Port-Harcourt route in Imo State.

A number of offices and parked cars on the property were destroyed when the gunmen hurled explosives through the fence of the commission.

The Nation reported that during a fierce gunfight, the police stationed at the INEC office shot and killed three of the gunmen who were wearing charms and Biafra camouflages.

The INEC public relations officer, Dr. Chinenye Chijioke-Osuji, confirmed the unpleasant development.

“It happened. You can come and see things for yourself. Not all the offices were attacked, but one side was completely down. The Election and Political Party Monitoring Liaison building was attacked and part of the main building,” she said.
