Gunmen attack Enugu, raze patrol vehicle over sit-at-home order

Gunmen allegedly implementing a five-day sit-at-home order have attacked and set a police patrol vehicle on fire in New Market, an area in Enugu, the capital of Enugu State.

Although the attack’s specifics are still unclear, a senior police officer told a PUNCH correspondent that it had occurred.

He added that no one had been hurt and that a manhunt for the gunmen had begun.

A brief video of the incident that a PUNCH correspondent was able to capture showed a white police patrol car on fire.

According to reports, the gunmen, who were more than ten, invaded the New Market area at 6 a.m., perhaps with the intention of closing it down. However, they were met by some police officers who were manning the market area to reassure traders of their safety.

They allegedly engaged the policemen in a gunfight before lighting their car on fire and forcing the officers to flee.
