Rivers State: High Court Upholds Joseph Obele Status as AAC Governorship Candidate

A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has upheld Dr. Joseph Obele’s candidacy as the African Action Congress (AAC ) legitimate governorship candidate for the state’s general elections in 2023.

A self-described factional party chairman, Mr. Progress Ogbokuma, had petitioned the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt to recognize his supposed primary election and annul the primary poll that had chosen Dr. Obele.

In her decision on Wednesday, His Lordship, Justice Phoebe Ayua of the Federal High Court dismissed the case for lack of merit.

By the time of the ruling today, the legal proceedings involving AAC were over, and Dr. Joseph Obele, the legitimate AAC candidate for governor of Rivers State, remained on the ballot.

Responding after the court ruling, Obele said, “God is to be glorified for the victory at the Federal High court. It is a victory for the redemption of Rivers State; a victory for job creation for the youths of Rivers State.”

He urged all AAC members who felt wronged to put aside their differences in order to advance the party.
