Gunmen kidnap Benue Commissioner, Ekpe Ogbu

The Benue State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Ekpe Ogbu, has been taken hostage.

He was taken hostage along Otukpo-Ado Road in the state’s Ado Local Government Area on Sunday at about 8:45 p.m., The PUNCH reported.

Colonel Paul Hemba (retired), the governor’s security advisor, confirmed the commissioner’s kidnapping to Channels TV on Sunday night.

According to him, rescue efforts had started after the police in Otukpo found the van the commissioner was riding in.

He said his family had not yet heard from the kidnappers.

Ogbu was abducted together with three other people: the Honourable Agbo Ode, a relative of his, and the driver of the car, according to a report by The PUNCH.

The commissioner reportedly attended a religious event held at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Otukpo, where Senator Abba Moro of the Benue South Senatorial District dedicated his newly established Campaign Council to God.

After the church service, Ogbu was on his way to his village in Ndekma in the Utonkon District when he was abducted with others.
