Freed Aminu to Meet President Buhari Over Tweet against First Lady

Aminu Adamu, a student at the Federal University in Dutse, Jigawa State, who was previously arrested and tried for tweeting against the first lady, Aisha Buhari, is set to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari, according to his family.

The final-year student in the Department of Environmental Management and Toxicology in June 2022 has posted on Twitter that Mrs. Buhari gained some weight from taking part in looting the nation’s resources.

The tweet, “Su mama anchi kudin talkawa ankoshi,” which was posted in Hausa, was accompanied by a photograph of the First Lady and is loosely translated as “Mama has eaten poor people’s money and is now full.”

On November 8, Aminu was apprehended by security personnel on campus and reportedly assaulted after his arrest.

Many on social media have slammed the First Lady’s detention and subsequent arraignment of Aminu, calling it an abuse of authority.

However, on Friday, the prosecution counsel, Fidelis Ogbobe, announced the withdrawal of the case against Aminu on behalf of the First Lady.

According to Ogbobe, Mrs. Buhari decided to forgive Aminu when some well-meaning Nigerians intervened.
